The North Shore Winterhawks Midget A1 team has started strong at the Annual Vernon Midget A1 tournament this weekend.

The Hawks opened the tourney with a 6-3 win over Vancouver Thunderbirds Friday night and then downed Salmon Arm 6-4 in the early game Saturday morning.

The team will play their third game in less than 24 hours at 2:30, facing a well rested Kamloops team.

Kamloops are coming off a tournament win last weekend in Kelowna, and an 8-3 win over Salmon Arm in their opener.

Bow Valley from the Calgary area, and Vernon won both their games Friday night and are currently facing off against each other in the 9:15 am game.

Bow Valley downed Coquitlam 8-3 and Vernon downed Richmond 4-1.

The top two teams in each pool will play off Sunday morning to determine match ups for the final game early Sunday afternoon.
