NSWC Peewee A1s close again vs Bruins

NSWC Peewee A1s faced rival BWC Bruins for the fifth time this season on Nov. 23 and again came up just shy of a win, 1-0.

In their first game against the Bruins this season in the final at the BWC hosted Thanksgiving tourney, the Bruins chipped away all game and closed out 4-1 on an empty netter.

Next the Winterhawks faced the Bruins in their second placement game and jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Bruins regrouped and scored with the goaltender pulled with 8 seconds left to salvage a tie. Hawks Sean Gulka and Bruins Baxter Anderson each scored twice.

In the third contest, in the round robin of the Vancouver 2000 Super Series tournament on the Remembrance Day weekend, the Winterhawks outshot the Bruins 32-16 in a 2-2 tie. The teams then faced off in the final the next day, and the Hawks again outshot the Bruins 30-9, but ended up on the short end of a 1-0 tally.

Friday night, November 23,  the Winterhawks again enjoyed home ice advantageand were set to finally tip the balance.

But this time the Bruins were ready. They stormed out of the gate and outshot the Hawks 5-0 in the first, scoring once on a goal by Ilija Colina at the 6:20 mark.

The Hawks regained their poise in the second, and battled back hard through the final 40 minutes, outshooting the Bruins 15-5 over the last two frames, but could not beat Nick Lee, as the game ended 1-0.

The two teams will not meet again until the New Year.
