The Okanagan Hockey Academy from Penticton won the eight team Tier One Division of Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament (KIBIT) 2013 on Sunday, defeating the Vancouver T-Birds 5-1.
OHA’s Davis Koch posted a hat-trick, with Jordan Fidanza and Beck Malenstyn adding singles. Malenstyn also added 3 assists, while Taylor Ward put up 2 assists, and Ryan Bowen, Ryan Keilty Andrew Stevens added single assists.
Aris Anagnostopoulos got the win in goal for OHA.
Tyson Lin scored the only T-Birds goal unassisted on the power play.
Adam Riddell took the loss in net.
Both teams finished at the top of their respective pools, with 3-0 records.
The T-Birds scored 12 GF vs 7 GA, in games against Abby Hawks (2-1), Richmond Blues (5-4) and PoE (5-2). The three opposing Pool A teams went 1-2 in the round robin.
OHA finished with 15 GF vs 5 GA in Pool B, edging out Coquitlam Chiefs (4-1). Kamloops Jardine Blasers (6-3) and Wentachee Jr. Wild (5-1).
OHA had defeated Abby 4-3 in OT in the semis Saturday, the T-Birds advanced on a 2-1 win over Coquitlam.
All Star Team:
OHA’s Malenstyn and Koch, along with Jordan Deyrmenjian of Vancouver were Tier 1 All Star forwards.
Cody Palvarinta of Abbotsford was named Top D for the tournament. Ralph Jarret of PoE won the other the All Star Defenceman award.
Paul Tucek of Coquitlam was All Star Goalie.
Brad Bowen of Abbotsford was Top Coach.
