EDMONTON, AB — Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) Edmonton has announced it will locate its educational services at Vimy Ridge Academy (VRA) starting in the 2016-17 season.

Vimy Ridge Academy, an Edmonton Public School, will be the new educational home for the OHA Edmonton’s Bantam Prep and Midget Prep teams.

“We are very excited to be at Vimy Ridge Academy for our educational services,” said Okanagan Hockey Group president, Andy Oakes. “Having Junior High and Senior High connected in one school will help with academic continuity and growth. We are looking forward to building our program within Vimy Ridge Academy.”

Vimy Ridge Academy opened in 1999 and currently has an enrollment of 850 students from Grades 7-12. It was the first school of its kind in Canada to provide a rigorous academic program for students’ grades 7 through 12 with an emphasis on Sports Programming, Outdoor Pursuits and a Professional Dance Program.

OHA’s teams will add approximately 40 more students to the school. VRA offers flexible timetabling to accommodate individual student needs. The school is in the midst of a complete modernization, expected to be completed early next year.

“We look forward to Okanagan Hockey Academy joining our school,” says Vimy Ridge Principal Bryan Radmanovich. “The two academies are a good fit, and we look forward to sharing our similar spirits of commitment and achievement.”

Okanagan Hockey Academy Edmonton was established in 2015 under the umbrella of Penticton, BC, based Okanagan Hockey Group, and was accepted into the league along with the Northern Alberta Extreme, in May 2015.

The Northern Extreme operate in conjunction with St. Francis Xavier High and the Edmonton Catholic School District and operate an E15 and a female program.

OHA students attended Ross Sheppard in year one.

Vimy Ridge Academy will be hosting an open house on February 11, 2016 from 7:00-9:00pm. The Academy is located near Connor Road and 83 Street near the Bonnie Doon area.
