The Okanagan Rockets completed their third weekend sweep of the season with a 5-1 win Sunday morning over the Thompson Blazers. The two wins move the club to 11-6-1, two points back of second place Valley West, and three back of the league leader, Vancouver NW Giants.

The Rockets started the scoring early on Sunday as Chase Stevenson got the home side on the board just 1:32 into the game. Stevenson tipped in a Spencer Hora slap shot from the right point for his 10th of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Okanagan doubled their lead on a jam play after a fluttering shot from Hora found it’s way through. The puck trickled through the glove side of Blazer net minder Max Palaga and was knocked in by Alec Zawatsky, his 12th goal of the year. The Rockets lead 2-0 after the first.

Thompson opened the scoring in the second period with a goal by Jett Saharchuk but the Rockets countered with two more. The first was a terrific play by Zawatsky, slipping his way through two Blazer defenders and roofing a shot high over the glove side for his 13th of the season at the 7:34 mark.

Jacob Bourchier then opened up a field goal advantage, scoring on a shot from the slot for his first BCMML goal with just one second left on the score clock. 4-1 end of two.

Chase Stevenson finished up the scoring with his second of the game on a rebound that came off a Shawn Guison point shot. Final 5-1 Rockets.
Rockets goaltender Liam Hughes played a strong game, stopping 17 of 18 shots fired his way. The Blazers Max Palaga made 45 saves on 50 shots on goal.

The Rockets hit the road for the next two weekends, first stopping in Prince George for an important two game set against the Cariboo Cougars (10-6-2) and then heading to the Frank Crane Arena December 5-6 for two games vs the Silvertips (2-13-1).

Puck drops in PG are scheduled for 4:45 pm on Saturday, November 28th and 9:45 am on Sunday, November 29th.

The Rockets next home action at CNC is on December 12th and 13th when they play host to the South Island Royals (10-6-2).
