Ty Ronning got Team Pacific U17 on the board late in the first to carry a 1-0 lead into the second frame vs the Czech Republic at this years World U17 Showcase in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
The Czechs had earlier defeated West (Sask/Man), 5-2, and Quebec 5-1. Quebec had downed Pacific 4-3 in the tournament opener on Sunday.
In the second period, the Czechs scored first on a power play at 6:18 only to be answered eleven seconds later, by Giorgio Estephan, and then two minutes later by Glenn Gawdin, to give Team Pacific a 3-1 lead at the end of two.
The teams traded eleven shots each in the third, but the Czechs were unable to beat Zach Sawchencko. Tyler Soy closed out the game with an empty netter on the PK at 19:37. Final, 4-1.
Shots on goal were 35 by Team Pacific, 30 by the Czechs.
The win puts Team Pacific in a three way Group A tie with Sweden and the Czechs after three games.
USA is leading Group B with a perfect 3-0 record, Ontario is in second place with two wins and an Overtime Loss.
