BWC Academy Bantam Prep will face Cariboo Cougars in the Gold medal game for the Pat Quinn Classic Bantam AAA Elite division this afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby.

BWC advanced through the semis with a 5-0 shutout of the San Jose Jr. Sharks, this morning. It was their third shutout of the tournament.

The Cougars meanwhile edged Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in a thrilling 5-4 OT decision, to finish with a perfect 5-0-0 record. The team is being led offensively by Dylan Illet, with 5G-4A and Caleb Poitras with 5G-2A.

In the BWC-San Jose matchup, BWC’s Tyler Chan scored the lone goal in the first period. Dryden Kuramoto lead a four goal BWC attack in the second, with a pair of markers. Charlie Tritt got the win.

In the other semi, Fraser Valley jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first and stretched it to 3-1 after the second, before Cariboo roared back with three straight in the third to take a brief 4-3 lead at the 12:04 mark.

T-Birds’ Daniel Schmitt then quickly snuffed out the bull run, answering just 20 seconds later to force OT.

Miguel Marques advanced the Cougars to the Gold, at 2:17 into the OT.

Damien Kanckstedt got the win, while Jason Roth took the loss. Cariboo outshot the T-Birds 48-30.

The win stretched the Cougars record to a perfect 5-0-0.

The Cougars edged two Alberta teams to start – Edmonton’s CAC 2-1 in their opener, and Fort Saskatchewan’s Rangers 3-2 in game two, before downing the GVC Canadians 5-3 and the Valley West Giants 3-2 in the final two games of the round robin.

The team is led by head coach, Mirsad Mujcin.
