The North Shore Winterhawks continue to lead Flight 1 of the PCAHA Bantam A1 league with an impressive 7-0 record, and 37 GF – 6 GA.
Hand it to the Hollyburn Huskies who potted 3 of those 6 GA in their game against the Hawks on Sunday night, losing in a 4-3 contest that saw the Huskies roar back from a 4-0 to deficit to give their North Shore rivals their first good scare in the Lower Mainland this year.
The Hawks also faced a tough competitor in the Richmond Blues Tuesday night, edging out a 3-2 win in a close game that went down to the wire. The Hawks outshot the Blues 28-16 and had opened a 3-0 lead with just 10 minutes left in the third, only to see Richmond answer with two over the stretch.
Lurking in the background are the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins, who are the only other undefeated team in the 13 team division. The Bruins have played only 4 games so far however, and as a result sit in fifth place in spite their 3-0-1 undefeated record.
The BWC tie was a 0-0 season opener against Richmond. The Bruins have outscored opponents 15-7 in the three games since, including a 4-2 win over the Cloverdale Colts on Sunday.
It was the Colts second loss in a row, after opening with an impressive 5-1-0 run. Again Hollyburn figures in the story, stopping the Colts 4-0 on Friday. The two losses leave the Colts with an 5-3-0 record in second place behind the Winterhawks, still very impressive for a team that started placement in Flight 2.
The Seattle Sno-kings are in third place with a 3-1-1 record and are tied at 11 points with Ridge Meadows who have played one more game and hold a 3-3-0 record.
Hollyburn in sixth spot behind BWC, have played six games, starting with 3 losses – to Sno-Kings, Ridge and BWC, before grabbing two wins vs Abby and Cloverdale, and then dropping the 4-3 decision to North Shore on Sunday.
Notable also is Richmond who also moved up from Tier 2 in placement, but have only played four games so far, posting a win against Seafair (0-6-1); two ties, the 0-0 tie vs BWC and a 3-3 vs Langley (1-2-2), and the tight 3-2 loss to the Winterhawks Tuesday night.
The Blues are currently in 12th place with 6 points, along with the TBirds (2-3-0, w 2 spts) and Abby (1-3-0, w 4 spts).
