With two games left to play, NSWC Bantam A2s need only a single point out of a possible six to clinch the regular season Flight 2 banner.

As in Flight 1, BWC is only club that can threaten the Winterhawks claim on the #1 spot. But that would take a complete meltdown by the Hawks over the last two games, and a three point effort by the Bruins in their final game, to get a tie for first at 45 points each.

It’s not too likely the Hawks will fail to secure a single point over their final two games. The Winterhawks finish up with a game vs #8 Surrey A1-T1 (6-11-2) on Saturday, and Port Moody A1-T2 (11-5-2) on Sunday.

The Hawks downed Surrey 5-2 in their season opener and then 4-3 on December 15; and beat a tough Port Moody team 3-1 on December 12. But as we all know, anything can happen on any given day.

BWC meanwhile, will face Port Moody first on Saturday, for the first time since the season opener on November 15, which they won 4-2. The Bruins are on a four game winning streak, with wins over Surrey A1-T1, South Delta A1-T2, Chilliwack A1-T1 and T-Birds A2-T2, outscoring opponents 23-8.

Port Moody is a bit of wild card. They’re the only other team besides the Winterhawks with two games to play, and a potential 6 points on the table. If they were to secure all six points, they’d move to 45 points and could potentially finish tied with NSWC in first place.

And they are on a hot streak, with a record of 5-1-1 since the New Year, including a 3-2 win over #3 Vancouver in their last outing, January 28.

So the BWC-Port Moody game is likely to be a hard fought, close one, that could go either way, setting up what could be a key game vs North Shore Winter Club on Sunday, the last game of the regular season.

In any case, the top six Tier 2 playoff teams are already set, with NSWC A2, BWC A2, Vancouver A1-A2, North Delta A1-A2, Vancouver A1-A2, and Port Moody A1-A2, occupying the top six slots in Flight 2, ahead of three A1 teams.

So, one could say, it looks like the playoffs have already started!
