The battle for #1 in the top Greater Vancouver Conference Atom division looks like it will go down to the wire.
BWC A1 are tied with NSWC at 40 points but are currently in first place by virtue of more Wins, with a 14-2-0-12 spt record.
But NSWC have two games in hand, posting their 40 points on a record of 13-1-0-12 spts.
In third place, seven points back of the leaders are Vancouver T-Birds with a 11-3-0-11 record, also with two games in hand over the Bruins.
Richmond are in fourth place with 9-5-0-10 spt, and 28 points, five points back of the T-Birds. They also have two games in hand on BWC.
So, with three points on the line for every win – 2 points for the win and 1 for the sportsmanship point, the NSWC, Vancouver T-Birds and Richmond all have a potential to add 18 points to their totals. BWC’s max is 12 points.
The math on this is that Vancouver T-Birds could still finish first at 41 points, with a perfect record and no points to BWC or NSWC in their final games – an extremely unlikely outcome.
So the race for #1 is essentially a two horse race between the two Winter Clubs.
NSWC finish with games vs the #3 TBirds, #4 Richmond, #7 North Vancouver, and #6 Vancouver Spirit. Their only loss was a 7-1 bruising to BWC December 15.
BWC finish with a home game vs the #9 T-Bird A2s, and singles vs T-Birds A1 and #6 Vancouver. The Bruins lost their only league game vs the T-Birds A1 3-2 on December 13. So the T-Birds game could be a key game for both teams.
The T-Birds finish with a visit to #2 NSWC, a home game vs #5 BWC A2, a game vs #6 Vancouver Spirit, and wrap up with the home game vs BWC A1. The T-Birds three losses have been at the hands of the two Winter Club A1 teams – 4-3 to BWC and 4-1 to NSWC, and to Richmond 7-4 in their last outing.
However the T-Birds have also beat Richmond (3-2) and BWC A1 (3-2) in regular season play.
Fourth place Richmond finish with games vs #9 T-Bird A2s, #2 NSWC, #8 Seafair and #6 Vancouver, and should win at last three games and potentially 4 sporties to finish with 48 points.
