Mission A1 mounted an exciting late game charge Tuesday, March 1 to defeat the Port Moody Panthers 4-2 (EN) and advance to the Provincial Tier 2 Midget Championships, as the #2 Lower Mainland representative.

Mission will join first place Aldergrove A1, who finished with a perfect 3-0 record, at the Provincial Championships, hosted by Comox on Vancouver Isaland.

Port Moody had opened a 3-1 lead going into the third, but ran out of gas as a determined Mission team battled back.

Port Moody had staged their own last minute heroics in game 1 to tie NSWC A2, 2-2, and set up the chance to move one.

The Mission win made the #1 Aldergrove vs #2 NSWC game unnecessary – which was set to go immediately following the Mission-Port Moody game.

Last year North Delta A1 and New West A1 were the Lower Mainland provincial representatives.

This year Prince George is hosting the Provincial Finals, March 14-17.

Other teams include: Williams Lake (North Central), Fort St. John (North East), Greater Vernon (Okanagan), Campbell River (Vancouver Island) and Castlegar (West Kootenay).

PCAHA Midget Tier 2 – Round 3 summary

It took all four games, but with a 1-0 win over Coquitlam A2 (F2, 6-4-2) on February 25, #4 seeded Mission A1 (F2, 7-8-3) made it a clean sweep for the top seeds in Tier 2 Final 4.

A Coquitlam win would have put the Chiefs in all of the top three midget Final 4s. Their A4s also lost narrowly missed moving on, losing to Surrey A4s on two ties and a loss, which would have made it a home run!

#1 Aldergrove (F2, 14-3-1) downed #9 Semiahmoo (F3, 5-10-3) with 7-6 and 3-2 wins, wrapping up Tuesday, February 23.

#2 NSWC A2 (F2, 8-6-4) won 5-2 and 2-1 vs #7 Ridge Meadows A2 (F3, 6-8-4) on February 16.

#3 Port Moody A1 (F2, 6-8-4) downed #7 Vancouver T-Birds A2 (F3, 6-6-6), 5-1 and  3-2 to advance on February 22.

Tier 2 Final 4 was hosted at the Aldergrove Community Arena.
