
It’s a tight race at the top of the WHL playoff scoring board, with the Winterhawks Nic Petan (Delta, BC, Mar 22, 1995) and the Hitmen’s Adam Tambellini (Edmonton, Nov 1, 1994) currently neck in neck with 26 points.
Oliver Bjorkstrand (Herning, Denmark, Apr 10, 1995) also of the Winterhawks is a point behind, and tied with Tambellini with the most goals (13).
It’s all over for Tambellini however, as the Hitmen were eliminated by the Wheatkings Friday night.
Petan and his teammates in Portland will play at least one more game, as they trail the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in the Western Confernence final.
Petan played his minor hockey at North Shore Winter Club, scoring 76 goals with 63 assists in 57 games in 2009-10 as a second year bantam.
Tambellini played minor midget with the South Side Athletic Club in Edmonton in 2009-10, scoring 27 goals with 24 assists in 34 games. He went on to play three years in the BCHL, before joining UND for half a season and then moving to the WHL.
Bjorkstrand made his pro hockey debut as a 15-year-old, in 2010-11 playing in a playoff gamewith Herning Blue Fox’s second team in his native Denmark after splitting the year between the Herning U20 and U17 teams. In 11 regular season games with the U20 team he scored 13 goals with 6 assists and had 2 penalty minutes.
At the moment the Wheatkings and Hitmen have six players in the top 20, the Kelowna Rockets have four, and Portland three.
