Portland vs Kelowna, Petan

The Portland Winterhawks are now done for the year, having been eliminated from the WHL Western Confernence finals in six games by the Kelowna Rockets on Sunday.

Their captain, Nic Petan, finished at the top of the WHL playoff scoring leaderboard after the series, with 10 G and 18 A, two points ahead of Adam Tambellini, whose Calgary Hitmen were also sent packing on the weekend, by the Eastern Conference champion Brandon Wheat Kings.

Petan’s teammate Oliver Bjokstrand currently sits in third place, a point back of Tambellini.

Petan holds a 7 point lead on Leon Draisaitl, who leads a pack of three Kelowna Rockets in the 4 through 6 spots.

Draisaitl has scored 6G-15A for 21 points, while teammates Tyson Baillie (9-11) and Nick Merkley (2-18) are a point behind.

Behind them, three Wheat Kings are in hot pursuit, as the action shifts to the Kelowna-Brandon WHL Championship final this coming weekend.

John Quenneville heads up the Wheat Kings scoring punch, with 10 G and 9 A, a point ahead of teammate Jayce Hawryluk (10-8) and two up on Tim McGauley (6-11).

The Rockets and the Wheat Kings both played two fewer games (15) than the Winterhawks in the Conference playoff run.

Notable is Hawryluk’s performance over 12 games.
