The Pacific Junior Hockey League kicked off the 2018-2019 season last night with game featuring the defending PJHL champion Delta Ice Hawks vs the visiting North Vancouver Wolf Pack.
The Ice Hawks, sporting sharp new uniforms prevailed in an exciting 5-3 victory over the Pack.
North Vancouver got goals early in the first from Nate McCarnan (pp – too many), and Justin Lee to open an early 2-0 before Delta tied it up, on goals from Bradley Fortin and Jihwan Kim (pp).
After a scoreless second, Max Daerendinger gave Delta their first lead, on another power play, just 1:14 into the third.
Eighteen-year-old forward Jon Rees scored eventual game winner for Delta midway through the period on another power play.
The goal was quickly answered by the Wolf Pack’s Lucas Barker, but Delta’s Jordan Deymenjian eventually closed things out with an empty netter.
Deymenjian also assisted on two, for a three point night to lead the Ice Hawks offence.
Jordy Engleson needed just 15 stops to record his first victory of the season.
Aiden Bar-Lev-Wise notched two assists to lead the Wolf Pack offence.
Starting goaltender Jonathan Holloway stopped 9 of 10, before equipment problems forced him out late in the first. Backup Nik Hoem stopped 23 of 26 shots in relief.
