Kelowna Rockets' Jackson Whistle shuts out TriCity Amerians in games 1 and 2 of the opening WHIL playoff round.

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 3-0 on Saturday night (March 28) at Prospera Place in Kelowna, to take a 2-0 lead in round one of the WHL playoffs. They had opened with a 6-0 win on Friday.

In Saturday’s game, Jackson Whistle made 30 saves for his second consecutive shutout.

Rodney Southam’s first period marker stood up as the winner, Tomas Soustal got the helper.

Leon Draisaitl scored unassisted for the Rockets at 15:54 of the third, his second of the playoffs. Tyson Baillie added an empty net goal in the win.

The Rockets outshot Tri-City 43-30, opening with a 20-6 barrage in the first period, but Americans’ goalie Eric Comrie kept his team in the game.

At the other end of the ice, Whistle was also stellar, turning aside 13 shots in the second and 11 the third period, as the Ams pressed to even the score and series.

The series now shifts to Tri-City for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kennewick, WA.

If necessary game five in the series will be back in Kelowna on Friday, April 3.
