The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 3-1 on Tuesday night at the Toyota Centre in Kennewick, WA, beginning a three game road trip with a win.
Nick Merkley scored a pair of goals and Dillon Dube had two assists in the win, as the Rockets improved to 11-5-0-0 on the season.
Kole Lind opened the scoring for the Rockets with a second period marker.
The Rockets outshot Tri-City 27-26 with Jackson Whistle earning the win in net.
Kelowna’s power play was 1-for-5 with Merkley’s game-winning goal scored with the man advantage. The Americans were 1-for-8 with the power play.
Kelowna now heads to Portland for a pair of weekend games against the Winterhawks playing in Portland on Friday and Saturday night.
The Rockets are one point back of the Victoria Royals, who are in top spot in the Western Conference. The Rockets however, have a game in hand on their Island rivals.
The Rockets return home on Wednesday Nov. 11 for a special Remembrance Day game against Seattle, a 2:05 p.m. start.
