Victoria downs Prince George 5-4 to go up 2-0 in best-of-seven series.

Victoria, BC- Victoria Royals’ Brandon Magee (Edmonton, AB) notched two goals in the final frame including the game-winner to secure a 5-4 win over the Prince George Cougars and open a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Quarter-Finals.

After falling behind 3-2 at the end of the second, the Cougars would tie the game twice in the third period; however Magee would answer back on both occasions to restore the lead and notch the win.

Jack Walker (Edina, MN), Tyler Soy (Cloverdale, BC) and Greg Chase (Sherwood Park, AB) scored the other markers for Victoria.

Prince George’s goals were potted by D-man Tate Olson (Saskatoon, SK) with two, Zach Pochiro (Las Vegas, NV) and Chase Witala (Prince George, BC).

Victoria goaltender Coleman Vollrath (Calgary, AB) stopped 30 of the 34 shots he faced, while Prince George netminder Ty Edmonds (Winnipeg, MB) turned aside 20 of 25 shots.

The Royals went 0-2 on the power play while the Cougars scored 2 of 6 with the man advantage.

The best-of-seven series will now shift to Prince George for Games 3 and 4 on Wednesday, April 1st and Thursday, April 2nd with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m. on both nights.

The Royals will return home for Game 5 (if necessary) on Saturday, April 4th with puck drop set for 7:05pm.
