Hockey Canada released the names of the 43 players invited to Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp in Calgary, Alberta, August 6 – 16, 2015.  Three (3) BC players were selected:

Ivana Bilic, Coquitlam, Warner Hockey School, Bemidji State University

Micah Hart, Saanichton, Okanagan Hockey Academy

Sarah Potomak, Aldergrove, Pursuit of Excellence

Bilic (March 21, 1994) played in all 39 games for BSU in 2014-15 and totaled 147 blocked shots, which led the nation. She also lead BSU’s defensemen with 23 points (5g, 18a) and posted three multi-point games. The 23 points ranked seventh for scoring by WCHA defensemen and 15th nationally among blue liners. Bilic was a two-time WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honoree.   Milan Lucic is her god-brother.

Hart and Potomak both played for Team Canada’s U18 team in 2013, and were the only sixteen olds on the squad.
Hart (January 13, 1997) was named captain of the Team Canada U18 squad last year, and is headed to Cornell University this fall. The blue-liner played at OHA last year and played Peninsula hockey on boys teams before moving to the OHA.
Potomak (December 19, 1997) is left-handed forward with a knack for scoring, and will join the University of Minnesota Gophers for the 2015-16 season. She finished the 2014-15 season at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy with 26 points (19 goals, seven assists) in 25 games. She led her team to a successful season, claiming the gold medal at the Female World Sport School Challenge.Potomak’s international experience includes winning gold with Canada’s Under-18 Team at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey Under-18 Women’s World Championship. She also played at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Under-18 Women’s World Championship, where she took home silver with Canada and led the tournament with nine points (five goals, four assists).

The Team Canada invitees will be split into two (2) teams, Blue and Gold, and will participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing and high performance classroom sessions.  Bilic and Potomak will play with Team Blue and Hart will join Team Gold.

The camp will see the invitees vying for spots on the 23 player squad that will travel to Lake Placid, New York for a three (3) game series against the United States’ Women’s U22 Select Team from August 19 – 22, 2015.
