Tim Jardine Bantam Showcase – Nanaimo wins it

Nanaimo Eagles have won the 22nd Annual Tim Jardine Bantam AAA Showcase, hosted by South Delta Storm, with an exciting 5-4 OT thriller over Chilliack.

Nanaimo had finished the round robin with a perfect 3-0 record, to set up a quarter-final match against #4 Coquitlam, which the Eagles won 3-2 on Saturday, to set up the semi this morning vs Hollyburn, the defending champions.

Again it was another tight win, with Nanaimo overcoming the Huskies 3-2 in OT to advance the team to the finals.

On the other side, Chilliwack, who finished  #3 in the A Pool, downed #2 B Pool Langley 5-1 in the quarter finals, to set up a semi vs Cloverdale, which they won 8-2 to advance to the final vs Nanaimo.

Cloverdale had scrapped through the elimination round vs South Delta 5-1, and then downed Juan de Fuca 1-0 to earn their ticket to the semi.

So overall a great set up to the final, congrats to Nanaimo.

A review of the tournament-

Elimination round, Saturday morning:

Coquiltlam (A4) downed Ridge Meadows (B5), 5-4, to advance to quarterfinals vs top A Pool seed Nanaimo.

Cloverdale (B4) defeated South Delta (A5), 5-1 to advance to quarterfinals against top B Pool seed, Juan de Fuca.

Quarterfinals: Saturday

Hollyburn (B3) won 5-4 vs Sno-Kings (A2).

Chilliwack (A3) won 5-1 vs Langley (B2).

Nanaimo (A1) won 3-2 vs Coquitlam (A4)

Cloverdale (B4) won 1-0 vs Juan de Fuca (A1)

Semi-finals: Sunday

Match ups for Sunday morning:

Nanaimo (A1) won 3-2 OT vs Hollyburn (B3)

Chilliwack (A3) won 8-2 vs Cloverdale (B4)

Finals:

Nanaimo (A1), 5-4 OT vs  Chilliwack (A3)

 

Last year Hollyburn Huskies won the tournament with 6 straight wins, including a 3-2 semi-final win over Prince George, and a 6-5 gold medal win over Nanaimo.
