BWC Alum and senior standout defenseman for the University of Denver Pioneers, Joey LaLeggia, has been nominated for college hockey’s version of the Heisman Trophy: The Hobey Baker Award.

Awarded annually to college hockey’s top player, the Hobey Baker’s highly popular fan-voting opened on Wednesday, January 7, with senior Pios defenseman Joey LaLeggia appearing on the ballot.

LaLeggia’s Highlights 2013-2014

  • Named to six-member NCHC All-Conference First Team, receiving 30 points (10 first-place votes).
  • Won the NCHC awards for Defenseman of the Year and Offensive Defenseman of the Year.
  • Named NCHC Defensive Player of the Week on November 11.
  • Helped DU win the inaugural NCHC Championship and appear in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Recorded four points in six games of the postseason on two goals and two assists, both assists coming in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Played in 37 games for the Pioneers.
  • Led all defensemen with 25 points on 12 goals and 13 assists.
  • Tied for the conference lead in goals by a defenseman.
  • Second on the team in power play goals with five.
  • Had five multi-point games and started the season with points in nine of the first 14 games.
  • Missed five games due to injury.
