This year’s WHL draft follows the typical pattern in terms of distribution of picks based on date of birth.

As one would expect, overall, older more mature players dominate as size and strength translate directly into superior performance at the bantam age level.

This is particularly evident in the first two rounds, where over 60% of picks were born in the first three months of the year; 84% in the first six months.

There are exceptions of course, but again, for many of the later birth dates chosen, exceptional size is often a key characteristic.

Average height and weight are remarkably consistent round by round, with the first round, interestingly, being the lightest, averaging 156 lbs, and the third round the heaviest: 173 lbs.

Overall, the average height and weight is 5’11”, 162 lbs (see chart below).
