With a 2-1 win at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, the home town Chiefs eliminated the Everett Silvertips, and now will move on to face the Vancouver Giants in the WHL Western Conference final.
Everett’s Robbie Holmes opened the scoring early in the first, but Spokane’s Noan Reid evened up at the ten minute mark on a power play.
Shots were 11-5 for Spokane in the period.
Everett then turned it on, firing 13 shots on Bailey Birkin in the second and 16 more in the third, but couldn’t solve him.
Spokane’s Riley Woods notched the game winning goal 5:24 into the second, another power play goal. D-man and co-captain Ty Smith recorded his second assist of the game on the goal.
Shots finished 35-21 for Everett.
Spokane advances to the Conference final for the first time since 2011.
The Tips had forced game five with a 4-1 Friday night in Spokane.
The Conference final will mark the fourth meeting in WHL Playoffs history between the Chiefs and Giants. The Chiefs have won two of those meetings, including the most recent one in 2012.
Game 1 will take place at the Langley Events Centre on Friday, April 19 (7:30 p.m. MT) with Game 2 the following night.
The series will then shift to Spokane for the next two games. Game 3 will take place Tuesday, April 23 (7:05 p.m. MT) with Game 4 on Wednesday, April 24 (7:05 p.m. MT).
