The Vancouver Giants extended their winning streak to six on Sunday with their third straight win over #1 Kamloops Blazers.

On Saturday, the Giants downed Prince George 5-2, and are now six points back of Victoria for second in the WHL’s BC division, and six clear of the Kelowna Rockets.

Tyler Preziuso is on fire, scoring five goals and three assists in three games this week. Holden Katzalay has also scored in each of the last three games and has a couple of assists for 5 points over the stretch.

Goaltender David Tendeck stopped a penalty shot in the Sunday game, and is now two-for-two on the season.

Sunday Game Recap: Giants 7 – Blazers 3

 1st Period:

 KAM – 5:22 into the first, Logan Stankoven (18) gave Kamloops the lead off the rush. Kyrell Sopotyk provided the lone assist.

*David Tendeck stopped Connor Zary on a penalty shot attempt at 11:36. Keeping the game at 1-0.

VAN – Cole Shepard (10) responded with a highlight reel goal at 14:03. Shepard took the puck wide to the outside along the left-wing before cutting to the front of the net and tucking a backhand shot past Rayce Ramsay.

2nd Period:

VAN – Tristen Nielsen (24) gave the Giants their first lead of the night on a one-timer that came via a five-on-three power play. Bowen Byram and Eric Florchuk both earned assists.

KAM – The Blazers responded at 18:17 when Orrin Centazzo (36) answered with a power play marker of his own.

Shots: 11-8 Kamloops

3rd Period:

VAN – The Giants power play clicked again at 7:07 of the third period when Eric Florchuk (17) tucked home his first of two goals on the night past the left pad of Ramsay on a backhand. Tyler Preziuso and Bowen Byram earned assists.

KAM – Ryan Hughes (19) answered back for Kamloops off the rush at 10:15. He was set up by Brodi Stuart and Libor Zabransky.

VAN – Tyler Preziuso’s (21) power play goal at 13:55 would stand as the game winner for the Giants. Milos Roman and Tristen Nielsen both earned assists. That goal helped match last season’s goal total for Preziuso.

VAN – Eric Florchuk’s (18) second of the night came off a slick feed from Justin Lies at 15:09 to give the Giants their first two-goal cushion of the night.

VAN – Tyler Preziuso made it 6-3 into an empty net at 16:40. Trevor Longo earned the lone assist as Preziuso arrived at his fourth point of the night.

VAN – Holden Katzalay (5) then extended his goal-scoring streak to three straight games at 17:06 off a setup from both Justin Lies and Kaden Kohle.

Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre the Vancouver Giants (24-20-3-2) skated to a 5-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars (16-27-3-4). Seth Bafaro had a goal and two assists for the Giants while Bowen Byram (2A) and Tyler Preziuso (1G, 1A) added multi-point games. Trent Miner stopped 27 in the Vancouver net to earn his 10th win of the season. Vladislav Mikhalchuk and Mitchell Kohner responded with goals for Prince George.

 1st Period:

VAN – Holden Katzalay (4) opened the scoring for the Giants at 5:21, when he deflected Michal Kvasnica’s shot past Taylor Gauthier.

VAN – Tyler Preziuso arrived at the 20-goal mark for the second straight season at 12:42. Preziuso took a pass from Eric Florchuk, powered his way to the slot from the left-wing and snapped his shot home.

PG – Mitchell Kohner (7) put the Cougars on the board at 15:36 on a breakaway. Jack Sander and Cole Moberg both earned assists.

Shots: 13-9 Vancouver

 2nd Period:

VAN – Justin Sourdif (18) extended the Giants lead to 3-1 at 13:00 of the middle frame. Sourdif’s goal was set up by both Bowen Byram and Seth Bafaro.

PG – Vladislav Mikhalchuk (7) responded with a power play marker off a one-timer at 15:53. Ilijah Colina and Ryan Schoettler secured the assists.

Shots: 11-10 Prince George

3rd Period:

VAN – Seth Bafaro (4) restored the two-goal cushion for the Giants at 9:48 off a shot from the right-wing point.

VAN – Milos Roman (17) then ended all hopes of a Cougar comeback at 12:53 on a power play one-timer off a feed from Bowen Byram. Tyler Preziuso added the second assist on the play.
