December 5, 2018

BC Division

The Vancouver Giants continue to stretch their lead at the top of the WHL BC division, and are knocking on the door for the #1 spot overall in the Western Conference. With a record of 20-6-2-0 ant 42 points, the Giants are just three back of Everett, with two games in hand.

The Giants posted a 4-2 come back victory over Tri-City at home in Langley on Sunday, to become the third WHL team to secure their 20th win. Trent Miner, above, showed 24 of 26 for the win; which was the 6th consecutive W for the Giants.

The Giants are receiving stellar performances from both Miner and David Tendeck, ranked #2 and #4 overall in WHL goal-tending stats.

Milos Roman (99, Slovakia), with 16G-13A and Davis Koch (98, Surrey), with 9G-20A and at #38 and #40 overall in league scoring, lead the Giants offense. Next is second-year d-man Bowen Byram (01), with 8G-16A at 60th overall. The Cranbrook native is just three points off his 60 game 2017-2018 season total, after 28 games.

Kelowna Rockets continue to improve, and have clawed their way out of the Western Conference Wildcard and into a Top 3 spot in the BC division. Kelowna is now tied with 26 points with second place Victoria Royals, but the Royals have six games in hand.

The Royals split their most recent outing at Prince George, winning the first game 5-1 Saturday, then falling 5-3 in the rematch Sunday.

US Division

Everett are now up 11 points on second place Portland Winterhawks in the US division.

Eastern Conference

In the Eastern Conference, the #1 overall Prince Albert Raiders’ 19 game winning streak finally came to an end Tuesday, December 4, when the last place Swift Current Broncos (5-21-1-1) tied the game late, and then won 3-2 in OT. League leading goaltender, Ian Scott took the loss, while league leading offensive player, Brett Season, scored to stretch his production run to 28 straight games. The Raiders fired 54 shots on Joel Hofer.

Red Deer have now moved into #1 in the Central Division, leading Lethbridge and Edmonton by three points.

Brandon lead the Eastern Wild Card, with a 14-7-3-3 record, which would be good enough for three place overall in the Western Division.
