WHL Standings – Giants stretch lead in West

in regular season

November 4, 2018

The Vancouver Giants continue as the hottest team in the WHL Western Conference. The team is now posting 12-3-2 record overall, and are second overall in the league.

The Giants’ Trent Miner is now 4-1-0-2 with a league leading 1.41 goals against average and a .953 save percentage –  partner David Tendeck is 8-3-1-0, and .907.

The Victoria Royals are in second place in the BC division. The team has cooled a bit recently, dropping their last two, and are now 9-5-0-0. However, they have three games in hand on the Giants.

The Kelowna Rockets, typically near the top of the Western Conference, remain in the basement, but have improved to 7-10-0 over after installing Adam Foote as new head coach a week ago Tuesday, and posting three straight wins.

Everett is 11-6-0-o at the top of the US division, four points behind the Giants in the Western Conference, and one up on Portland.

In the Eastern Conference, the Prince Albert Raiders continue to dominate, with a spectacular 16-1-0 start, and a 85GF-30GA record. Not surprisingly perhaps, the team boasts both the top offensive player in Brett Leason and top goalie, Ian Scott.

Red Deer leads the Central Division with a 11-4-1 record. Edmonton are right there with them, at 10-7-1-1.

Still in the Eastern Conference basement, Swift Current, though now at 3-14-0 after winning their most recent two games.

Calgary Hitmen have improved to 5-11-2 after a 1-5-1 start.

Edmonton Oil Kings’s Trey Fix-Wolansky put up seven assists in his last two games and is now tied with Leason in total points, with 11G-28A, 39 pts in 19 GP.

Portland Winter Hawk’s Joachim Blichfeld is now in third spot, with 14G-21A, 35 pts in 19 GP.

Moose Jaw Warrior’s Justin Alemeida at #14 is currently the top BC-based player, with 3G-20A in 15 GP.

Top Goalies (10 or more starts)

Prince Albert goaltender Ian Scott is backstopping a very hot team, and has played the second most games of any top goalie, at 15, winning 14 of them, and he’s in the #1 spot with save percentage at .941, and GAA of just 1.60.

Victoria’s Griffen Outhouse is in the #2 spot at .930, with eight wins out of eleven starts, and a 2.29 GGA.

Dustin Wolf of Everett at .924/1.84 and most starts (17) rounds out the Top 3.
