WHL West – Giants win in OT, take 3-1 lead over Spokane

Dawson Holt scored 7:07 into the first overtime Wednesday, elevating the Vancouver Giants to a 3-1 series lead and pushing the Spokane Chiefs to the brink of elimination.

A pair of goals from 2019 NHL Draft prospect Adam Beckman gave the Chiefs a 2-0 lead at the end of two, before the Giants answered with three straight to take a 3-2 lead by the midway point of the third. Goals from Jadon Joseph, 2019 NHL Draft prospect Bowen Byram, and Brayden Watts shifted momentum to the visiting Giants but Spokane’s Riley Woods scored late to force overtime.

Vancouver’s Davis Koch and Milos Roman both notched two assists, while Jared Dmytriw and Holt led with five shots each for the Giants.

Jake McGrew and Riley Woods led the Chiefs with four shots each.

David Tendeck got the win, stopping 28 of 31, while Bailey Brkin was 26 of 30.

Spokane outshot the Giants 17-5 in the first. Vancouver rebounded with a 14-4 effort in the third.

Attendance was 4,208, at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

Puck drop for game five is at 7:30 PM, Friday, April 26, at the Langley Events Centre.

Game six, if necessary, returns to Veterans Memorial. Monday, April 29 at 7:05 PM; with game seven scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 back at the Langley Events Centre.
